The Nottingham Panthers saw off Elite League rivals the Sheffield Steelers in a shoot-out on Saturday after a 1-1 draw at the Motorpoint Arena.
Jordan Fox's goal for the Panthers was equalised by Jeff Legue, both in the second period, but the latter was one of the Steelers players to miss in the shoot-out as Matt Francis and David Ling scored for Nottingham.
The Belfast Giants were 3-2 winners against the Braehead Clan at the Odyssey Arena.
Robby Sandrock put Belfast ahead and, though Ash Goldie levelled, Will Colbert and Gregory Stewart put the Northern Irish side 3-1 up by the end of the second period before Jade Galbraith pulled one back in the third.
The Hull Stingrays scored five goals in the second period and still contrived to lose to the Coventry Blaze after Gerome Giudice's hat-trick.
Giudice put Coventry 2-0 up in the first period but the Rays surged back with two goals from Dominic Osman and one each from Jereme Tendler, Jason Silverthorn and Janis Ozolins, all in the space of eight minutes.
But Guidice's third goal late in that tumultuous second stanza proved crucial as Brad Leeb and Mike Schutte levelled in the third and, after a goalless extra period, Giudice and Leeb settled the shoot-out in the Blaze's favour after Ozolins scored for Hull.
Mac Faulkner scored twice as the Cardiff Devils won 4-1 against the Edinburgh Capitals. Stuart MacRae and Devin Didiomete were also on the scoresheet, with Marcis Zembergs scoring for the Scottish side.
