Panthers hurt Steelers' bid

Nottingham Panthers damaged Sheffield Steelers' bid to finish second in the Elite League by plundering a 3-1 victory at the Motorpoint Arena.

With Belfast Giants already crowned champions this week, the race is on for second place - Braehead Clan are also in the mix - and the Steelers took the lead through Rob Dowd in the first period.

But Lynn Loyns soon levelled and Leigh Salters fired the Panthers ahead with a wrap-around in the second.

Sheffield needed a big last period, but Robert Farmer backhanded the insurance goal on 02:02.

Coventry Blaze heaped further woe on bottom side Edinburgh Capitals, the midlands side storming to an 8-2 win.

Michael Henrich (two), Ryan Ginand (two), Ashley Tait (two), Adam Henrich and Cale Tanaka all ran riot at the SkyDome Arena with Richard Hartmann and Curtis Leinweber netting for the Capitals.

Jordan Fulton scored the overtime goal that edged Fife Flyers past Cardiff Devils 3-2.

Mac Faulkner kept Cardiff alive with a goal on 19:50 in the third period after Derek Roehl and Danny Stewart had cancelled out the effect of Tyson Marsh's second-period effort for the Devils.

Elsewhere, Dundee Stars beat the Hull Stingrays through Jack McLellan's second-period goal.
