Para Worlds off to Mexico

The 2014 Para-cycling Track World Championships will take place in Aguascalientes, Mexico, the UCI has announced.

Para-cyclists have faced uncertainty over future events on the track and the Rio de Janeiro Paralympics in 2016 were the next scheduled event on the calendar prior to official confirmation of next April's World Championships.

The April 10-13 event, which will come as welcome relief to para-cyclists, is certain to be fast.

Aguascalientes is at altitude and hosted the Track World Cup second round earlier this month, with world records sent tumbling.

UCI president Brian Cookson said: "I am delighted to say that we have now a full, robust and exciting calendar for Para-cycling in 2014.

"We had several organisers interested in hosting the 2014 Para-cycling Track World Championships and I would like to thank them all.

"Congratulations to Aguascalientes and Mexico which have already demonstrated their ability to host major international events."
