Fit-again forward Martin Paterson concedes it may be next season before Burnley fans see him back to his very best.
Paterson scored the third goal of an injury-hit campaign in Saturday's 2-2 draw with West Ham.
A serious thigh problem meant the 24-year-old was largely a spectator before the Christmas period and further time on the sidelines was required after he pulled a hamstring in the January victory at Middlesbrough.
"I feel like I am close to reaching a good standard, but for me this season is about building myself up again and I know my best football will be next year," Paterson told Burnley's official website.
"I feel frustrated that in certain games I have not quite pieced all my game together, but on Saturday I was quite close to what I should be.
"Sometimes when you have been out for such a period it takes a little while to come back. I think it's slowly coming back, but my best football will be the end of this year and hopefully next year."
