Pattinson ruled out for summer

Bowler James Pattinson will miss Australia's next four Tests after suffering rib damage against South Africa in Adelaide.

The 22-year-old was injured on Saturday and when he returned to field on Sunday was unable to bowl.

Although he made an unbeaten 29 with the bat on Sunday, Pattinson has been diagnosed with a left rib injury, that will sideline him for the remainder of the Australian summer.

Australia team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a statement: "James' injury involves some damage to the end of the rib and will need further investigation at the completion of this Test to determine the best course of management and the timeframe to return to bowling."

The fast bowler made an impact on his Test debut last December when he took 5-27 against New Zealand at Brisbane.

He notched 31 wickets in his first six Tests, becoming a key new ball bowler in the Australian attack.

His absence is a setback for Australia who are already without Pat Cummins and Ryan Harris.
