Pavlyuchenkova wins in Monterrey
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won her third Monterrey Open title after battling from behind to overcome top seed Angelique Kerber in the final.
As an 18-year-old in 2010 she beat top seed Jelena Jankovic to land the trophy, and 12 months later overcame second seed Daniela Hantuchova to collect the title.
She missed last year's tournament but the 21-year-old returned to be victorious again, and once more it was a higher-ranked player she overcome to land the silverware.
Fifth seed Pavlyuchenkova won 4-6 6-2 6-4 in an hour and 48 minutes, to secure her first title of the year in her second final of 2013, after a loss to Serena Williams at the start of the year in the Brisbane International.
Remarkably she has won 15 consecutive matches at the Mexican tournament which is easily the event at which she has been the most successful. Her only other title on the WTA tour came in Istanbul in 2010.
