Pearson: Foxes can thrive

Nigel Pearson is confident Leicester City have a squad good enough to survive in the Premier League.

Although the Foxes boss is well aware that winning matches will be more difficult this campaign than last - when they ran away with the Championship title - he says his players should cope with life in the top flight.

Pearson told the Leicester Mercury: "I believe we have a squad which is capable of making the transition.

"We are not going to dominate like we did last season - that goes without saying - but there is an air of confidence among the players that they believe they have the ability to perform. I fully agree."

As for his ambitions this campaign, he added: "I have been asked if staying up is just enough, and that has to be the bottom line.

"I think, more importantly, the players have a belief and the staff have a belief in the players that they are capable.

"A top-10 finish would be huge but we have to make sure our first goal is to establish ourselves in the Premier League."
