Pellegrini coy on selection

Manuel Pellegrini refused to be drawn on whether he will rest key players when Manchester City take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Both City and the reigning champions are already safely qualified for the knock-out stages of Europe's elite club competition and, with a clash against Arsenal looming on Saturday, many expect Pellegrini to shuffle his pack.

The Chilean said, when asked if he would use fringe players at the Allianz Arena: "One of the most important things was to get through to the knock-out phase and now we have the chance to decide the group.

"Of course, we are thinking about both games, but first tomorrow is very important for us to play well and we will also see what happens for the tough game against Arsenal.

"We have qualified for the next round and that is very good. It's important to improve on what we did against Bayern at home, we didn't play well and we need to improve the image we gave of ourselves in that match."

City were comprehensively outclassed 3-1 by the German giants at a stunned Etihad Stadium in October, but Pellegrini insists he will adopt the same approach to facing Bayern away from home.

He added: "I will not change my tactics. Maybe because we are playing away, I do a different thing but, if I was to play that game again, I would do exactly the same.

"That does not mean there is a possibility that the players who play against Bayern Munich will not play against Arsenal."
