Penguins see off Blue Jackets
Pittsburgh Penguins held on to defeat Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 and book their place in the second round on Monday night.
Three goals by Evgeni Malkin and one for Brandon Sutter saw the Penguins take a four-goal lead and they then held on to defeat the Blue Jackets in Game Six at the Nationwide Arena.
Pittsburgh claimed a 4-2 victory in the best of seven Eastern Conference First Round series to line up a meeting with either New York Rangers or Philadelphia Flyers in the second round. New York lead Philadelphia 3-2 in their first-round series.
Los Angeles Kings won a third straight game against San Jose Sharks to make sure their first round series would go the distance.
Justin Williams and Anze Kopitar each scored twice as the Kings fended off elimination for a third time in five days with a 4-1 victory in Game Six of the Western Conference First Round series at the Staples Center.
Elsewhere, Zach Parise scored two goals as Minnesota Wild forced a seventh game against Colorado Avalanche with a 5-2 win that levelled the series at 3-3.
