Perez hails McLaren boss
Sergio Perez already views McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh as "a great boss" and even a potential father figure.
Whitmarsh put his reputation and neck on the line last September when he opted for Perez as replacement for Lewis Hamilton in light of the Briton's decision to join Mercedes.
With two seasons behind him at Sauber and some strong results for the Swiss team last year, Perez unquestionably has talent.
It is now up to Whitmarsh to mould the young Mexican, who officially started work with McLaren last Wednesday, into a world champion.
Perez, who celebrates his 23rd birthday in 11 days' time, certainly views Whitmarsh in high regard.
"Even though I've not had much time with him, since the beginning he has helped me with everything, has been there for me," Perez said.
"He is a great boss. I already have a great relationship with him, a very friendly relationship. It's good to have such a relationship with your boss.
"At the end of the day we both have the same target, and that is to be world champion."
Asked whether he viewed Whitmarsh as a father figure, Perez replied: "Yeah, maybe. He is old enough to be!
"He is a good guy, I see him as a good friend. I have a lot of trust in him, so I'm very honoured, happy and lucky to have such a boss."
