Phillips returns to competition

Zara Phillips made a low-key return to eventing on Saturday following the birth of her first child in January.

Phillips, a member of the Great Britain Olympic team that won a silver medal at London 2012, rode two horses at the Symm International Horse Trials in Oxfordshire.

It was her first competition of the season as she took part in the open novice class.

Former world champion Phillips, the Queen's granddaughter, finished 20th with CG Master Lux and 22nd on Mr Murt among a field of 41.

She has two more rides in the open intermediate section on Sunday, including her London Olympics horse High Kingdom.

Phillips, 32, will step up her quest for World Equestrian Games selection in late August as the eventing season unfolds.

She will not be at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials next month, but it is thought she will aim High Kingdom at the Luhmuhlen four-star event in Germany in June.

Phillips and High Kingdom finished second at Luhmuhlen last year.
