Pitch problems for Bristol City

Steve Cotterill admits Bristol City may not be able to use their new 1.2m Ashton Gate pitch before Tuesday night's clash with Oxford.

The Robins invested heavily in their playing surface during the summer and were unable to try it out during their pre-season campaign.

And Cotterill says it was not a case of resisting temptation but a move to make sure it was in the best possible condition for their Capital One Cup first round tie.

"When you are spending 1.2million on a pitch you want it to be right, so if we have to leave it then so be it," he said.

"If there would have been a game and the pitch would have been okay then we would have had a game on it for sure.

"We may not get on it until the game against Oxford which would be maybe a slight disappointment but we want to give the groundsman the best chance."
