Play abandoned at Middlesex

Wet weather prevented Middlesex and Sussex from making a start to their LV= County Championship clash for the second successive day.

After rain washed out the opening day's play the conditions did not improve and play was abandoned for the day, albeit this time due to a wet outfield.

Umpires Steve Garratt and David Millns made the call following a 1.10pm inspection of a sodden Merchant Taylors' School Ground in Northwood.

With two days left, and the toss not yet made, a result looks unlikely to threaten Middlesex's bid to stay at the top of the first division table.

Chris Rogers' side have won four of their opening six games to start the campaign, with closest rivals Yorkshire and Somerset able to play on Tuesday.

Sussex sit fourth in the table with two wins from their five games.
