Players hail Malaga triumph

Malaga goalscoring heroes Isco and Roque Santa Cruz were delighted with the achievements of their side after qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in the club's history.

On an emotional night at La Rosaleda, a goal in each half was enough to send the financially-stricken club through to the last eight 2-1 on aggregate, after a 2-0 win over Porto on the night, and the highly-rated Isco could not hide his elation at their progression.

"An achievement like this seemed impossible only a short time ago. It is a dream for everyone here," he said.

"We came out of the blocks with a lot of intensity because that is what this tie demanded of us. We then settled into the match and showed what we were capable of."

Santa Cruz, who had only just come on as a substitute when he sent the home support wild with what turned out to be the decisive goal, was in equally jubilant mood.

"I think that this group of players and the fans deserved this," said Santa Cruz.

"The friendship and closeness within the squad is fundamental. I am happy to have scored, and for the fact we won."
