Pochettino bemoans errors
Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino felt defensive errors cost his side in their first Premier League home defeat of the season against Aston Villa.
Saints were made to pay for their failure to turn their domination into goals despite Jay Rodriguez and Dani Osvaldo cancelling out efforts from Gabby Agbonlahor and Libor Kozak.
Fabian Delph rifled home with ten minutes remaining to secure Villa a thrilling 3-2 victory at St Mary's Stadium.
Speaking through his interpreter, the Argentine told Sky Sports: "Overall, our possession was good but we also made some errors at the back and usually this team is quite solid at the back.
"They were also lucky in the fact that they had four chances all game and scored from three of them. We created 21 chances, so overall I thought we were unlucky.
"We were just not solid at the back and we were heavily punished. It seemed we had the game under control until they scored their third goal from long range."
With Manchester City to come at the weekend, Saints will be hoping to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat and Pochettino added: "Of course we will try and stop this bad run of results.
"I think both results against Arsenal and Chelsea were undeserved and we were unlucky tonight."
