Poet possible for Tolworth
Poet may try to build on his highly-promising jumps debut by stepping straight up to Grade One company on Saturday.
Trainer Clive Cox, a former jump jockey but better known as a trainer on the Flat, could have a smart recruit for the winter game in the dual Group Three winner.
The Lambourn handler will give the Pivotal gelding an entry in the 32Red Hurdle, formerly known as the Tolworth Hurdle.
Plenty of cut in the grounds suits the seven-year-old who gave one of his better performances on the level at the Esher track when running the 2010 Derby hero Workforce to a length in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes in May 2011.
"It was a very pleasing debut at Newbury, the horse enjoyed it and he's come back fine," said Cox.
"It was a comparative easy day out for him. He thoroughly enjoyed it.
"He's a very high-class performer on the Flat and he has taken to hurdling and his being gelded really well too. That is always a bit of a worry with an older horse.
"He'll have an entry in the Tolworth. Obviously the wet conditions will suit him and Sandown is a track he's run very well on the Flat.
"That's where we will be having a look and that is the plan at the moment."
