Pomersbach turns up the Heat

Brisbane Heat cruised into the semi-finals of the Big Bash T20 league with an eight-wicket victory over Hobart Hurricanes.

Left-hander Luke Pomersbach crashed 82 from just 42 balls as the Heat reached their target of 151 with almost six overs to spare.

Pomersbach was ably assisted by Joe Burns, who added 41 in a partnership of 107 for the second wicket after they lost Peter Forrest at the start of the fifth over of the reply.

The Hurricanes' innings never flowed after openers Tim Paine and Travis Birt were stifled by the Heat, whose decision to open with spinner Nathan Hauritz paid dividends.

England's Owais Shah (32 not out) and Jonathan Wells (40 from 24 balls) got them to 150-4 with an unbroken stand of 66 but the score was no more than par in Hobart.

And so it proved as Pomersbach tore into the Hurricanes from the get-go, registering the fastest 50 of the competition and eventually hammering 13 fours and two sixes in his thrilling response.

Doug Bollinger removed Forrest but Pomersbach and Burns proved a winning combination and although Ben Laughlin bowled the former to become the tournament's leading wicket-taker, the Heat were almost home.

They will now take on the Melbourne Renegades on Tuesday in the last four.
