Ponting signs up for CPL
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has been named as the first international player who will take part in the Caribbean Premier League.
The 38-year-old, who retired from international cricket in December, will appear for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League and then move on to English county side Surrey for the first two months of the county season before heading to the Caribbean in late July.
In 168 Tests Ponting scored 13,378 Test runs, another 13,704 runs in 375 ODIs and 401 runs in 17 T20 internationals.
"The West Indies has always been one of my favourite cricket destinations," said Ponting. "The mix of entertainment and cricket is the perfect recipe for West Indian cricket fans as well as the rest of the world."
Ponting will not find out which of the six sides - Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago - he will play for until May's draft. The CPL is scheduled to take place from July 29 to August 26.
