Porter sets up Brook battle
Shawn Porter paved the way for a summer clash with Kell Brook after defending his IBF welterweight title with a stoppage win over Paulie Malignaggi.
Porter dismantled the normally durable Malignaggi, finishing him off in the fourth round with a heavy knockdown, which sent out a warning to Brook.
The Sheffield fighter is Porter's mandatory challenger and is scheduled to face the American before July 19.
Malignaggi, a two-weight world champion, was expected to supply a decent test, but Porter's superior power was evident from the start and he staggered his opponent in the second.
There was no respite for Malignaggi, who received more punishment in the third, and the 'Magic Man' could not stem the constant stream of heavy punches.
Porter's pressure paid off in the fourth as he floored Malignaggi and the referee waved it off when a follow-up barrage dropped the Brooklyn man heavily.
When asked about his future plans, Porter said: "I'm going to enjoy this and let my team handle what is next. I'm sure they will all communicate. We'll come up with the next game plan and we'll tackle it.
"Paulie wished me the best and said, 'Make sure they know that I lost to a great champion. Go out there and be great'. I am going to honour his words and his wishes."
Earlier in the night, Peter Quillin defended his WBO middleweight title with a unanimous points win over Lukas Konecny.
Quillin controlled the fight from the start and took the victory with scores of 120-108, 119-109, 119-109.
