Portugal 5/1 for Euros glory

Portugal are the 5/1 third-favourites to win Euro 2012 after becoming the first team to book their place in the semi-finals on Thursday night.

A Cristiano Ronaldo goal 11 minutes from time secured a 1-0 victory for Paulo Bento's men over Czech Republic - and left the layers cursing.

William Hill reported they had paid out in excess of £1.5million on the match, with a £700,000 payout on their industry top price of 2/1 on Ronaldo scoring and Portugal winning.

Spokesman Joe Crilly said: "After England/Ukraine, this is our second worst result of the Euros and we'll certainly be cheering on Greece on Friday."

The 66/1 Greeks face 9/4 tournament favourites Germany in the second of the four quarter-finals, with defending champions Spain rated 11/4 outright as they prepare for Saturday's showdown with France (13/1).

England and Italy are both available at 9/1 in the betting ahead of their last-eight showdown in Kiev on Sunday night.

Ronaldo's third goal in two games means he's the big favourite to win the player of the year award; he's 7/2 with Andres Iniesta next in the betting at 9/1

On Betfair, Portugal were matched at 3.4 for victory against the Czechs, with the correct score matched at 7.8 and Ronaldo at 8.6 to be first goalscorer.
