Positive news on Puffin Billy

Trainer Oliver Sherwood is pleased to report Puffin Billy is recovering well after undergoing emergency colic surgery on Friday evening.

The high-class five-year-old was due to carry top weight in this afternoon's Handicap Hurdle at Haydock in an attempt to get his career back on track after some recent reverses, but was found to be suffering from a twisted small intestine.

He was operated on at the Valley Equine Hospital in Lambourn and the early signs are that the surgery was a success.

Sherwood said: "I went to see him this morning and the girls at the Valley Equine Hospital are very positive.

"He has had a couple of poos, which in all seriousness is very positive after a horse has had surgery on his intestine.

"It's good news, hopefully the worst is over and now it's just a case of him recovering."
