Powell concerned by pitch

Charlton boss Chris Powell admits the state of the Valley pitch could cost them this season.

The Addicks have been hit by a spate of postponements due to the recent bad weather, and although Tuesday's FA Cup clash with Oxford went ahead the playing surface resembled a mudbath.

Charlton at least get a break from their pitch this weekend when they head to Middlesbrough, and Powell knows they will have to make the most of their upcoming away games if they are to steer clear of the relegation zone this season.

Powell said: "There are areas of concern, with every pass you are thinking 'is it going to make it, will it bobble over his foot?'

"There is not much we can do about it, the groundstaff have worked tirelessly but it's only something that can be remedied at the end of the season, which is a shame because we have a number of games to play here yet.

"Given the position we are in we are going to have pick up points away from home and do our best to pick them up at home as well."
