Power surge lands Guineas

Power finished strongly to win the Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh for Aidan and Joseph O'Brien.

A bitter disappointment in the English equivalent at Newmarket on his reappearance, the son of Oasis Dream looked in trouble here as stablemates Daddy Long Legs and Wrote set a fierce early pace and threatened not to come back to the field.

It was inside the distance that the former finally cried enough and the 5-1 winner went to the front to win from Bryan Smart's Foxtrot Romeo (33-1) who ran a huge race in second.

Reply (25-1) was third for the Ballydoyle team.

Richard Hannon's Trumpet Major was sent off the 9-4 favourite but never looked dangerous, while Sea The Stars half-brother Born To Sea ran on to make good late headway behind the principals.
