Poyet confident of signings
Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is confident of adding further additions to his squad this summer and believes some of the potential signings may cause a shock.
Poyet has already boosted his options with the additions of Billy Jones, Jordi Gomez, Costel Pantilimon and Patrick van Aanholt, while he has also confirmed talks with Liverpool regarding striker Fabio Borini.
Santiago Vergini and Marcos Alonso, who both had successful loan spells at the Stadium of Light last season, have also been among Poyet's targets this summer as he looks to build on their 14th-place finish.
Poyet's side have returned to England following three pre-season friendlies in Portugal and the 46-year-old is now excited by the week ahead as he anticipates activity in the transfer market.
"There are plenty of things going on and I'm looking forward to things happening in the next few days, so it's all positive," Poyet told the Shields Gazette
"I think we have a great chance (of signing players), a great chance. People are going to be surprised, which is great. It's all positive.
"We've had a few things that before we knew it they didn't work. But I'm hoping there's going to be some good news over the next two or three days."
Sunderland have been heavily linked with Cardiff City midfielder Jordon Mutch, who is also said to be attracting interest from QPR, but Poyet was reluctant to admit whether the 22-year-old is a target.
"We have been talking about so many players and it's difficult. If you start talking about every single player on the list we will be here forever," he said.
"It's not fair on the players or the clubs either. I prefer not to go too much in to it."
