Poynter lands Durham deal

Irish international wicketkeeper Stuart Poynter has signed a two-year contract with Durham.

The 23-year-old former MCC young cricketer has followed in Michael Richardson's footsteps by making the move to the North East from the Young cricketers.

Poynter has represented Middlesex and Warwickshire in first-class cricket, but it was his 172 against Durham in the 2nd XI Championship for the Young Cricketers that really caught the eye.

Poynter then joined up with the Durham 2nd XI for the rest of the 2013 summer. After some impressive displays with the bat, including a century against Leicestershire 2nd XI, the Irishman has earned himself a permanent contract with the county champions.
