Poynton released from hospital

Derbyshire wicketkeeper Tom Poynton has been released from hospital following the road accident which claimed the life of his father Keith.

The 24-year-old former England U19 player had been kept in hospital following Friday's accident which led to the postponement of Derbyshire's opening County Championship match at Leicestershire.

A statement read: "Following the tragic events of Friday evening, the club can confirm that Tom Poynton has been discharged from hospital and is now at home with his family.

"He is being supported by the club doctor and club physiotherapist who are treating the injuries sustained to his lower limbs in the accident."

Poynton, who made his first-team debut in 2007, signed a three-year contract in October 2012 and featured in 12 first-class fixtures last season, compiling 443 runs and claiming 30 dismissals.

Derbyshire chief executive Simon Storey added: "We are relieved that Tom is now at home with his family and friends.

"The club will continue to do everything we can to support him in his rehabilitation, but the priority remains for now on supporting Tom and his family as they come to terms with the loss of Keith.

"On behalf of the entire club, I would like to put on record our sincere gratitude to all the messages of support we have received at this difficult time."
