FT: West Ham 2 Aston Villa 1

Zavon Hines came off the bench to fire West Ham to their first home victory of the season as they beat Villa in a dramatic Upton Park contest.

Hines replaced the injured Carlton Cole on 31 and earned the Hammers a penalty in first-half injury-time before hitting the winner deep in stoppage time.

Mark Noble put the home side ahead from the spot just before the break after Habib Beye had bundled over Hines, but Ashley Young levelled in style on 52 when he curled a shot into the top-right corner.

Young was making amends after Rob Green had saved his spot-kick on 49 after Manuel Da Costa was adjudged to have fouled James Collins as he attempted to clear with a towering header.

Green had earlier produced a brilliant save from Stiliyan Petrov's deflected first-half volley, while Villa keeper Brad Friedel foiled both Hines and Noble late on.

Beye saw red after picking up a second yellow card for bringing down Jonathan Spector on 85 and West Ham took advantage as Scott Parker's driving run set up Hines at the death.
