Prescott to guest at cup final

Former England full-back Steve Prescott will be guest of honour at the Carnegie Challenge Cup final on August 28.

Prescott, a Challenge Cup winner with St Helens in 1996 and 1997, will greet the players and officials from Leeds and Warrington at Wembley before the game and present the trophy to the winning captain.

He was diagnosed with pseudomyxoma peritonei, a rare form of terminal stomach cancer in 2006, and has become an admired figure within rugby league for the great work he has done for charity in recent years.

"I can't think of anyone more deserving to be guest of honour," said Rugby Football League chairman Richard Lewis.

Prescott said: "It's an incredible honour for me to be given this amazing opportunity and I still can't believe I've been asked to do it."
