Pringle can be play-off star

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has backed influential midfielder Ben Pringle to shine in the play-offs.

The midfielder has been a star performer for the Millers in a successful season and his 13 assists and five goals helped him to be named in the PFA League One Team of the Year.

And Evans wants the 24-year-old to put in three more stellar performances and help his side to promotion, starting with Saturday's semi-final first leg at Preston.

"He has been terrific this season," Evans said. "He is the best wide left player in League One and that takes some doing, but he has proved he is the best by consistently delivering top, top class performances.

"He is a top talent and he can light us up in the play-offs."

Evans deserves praise for turning Pringle into the player who received significant interest from Championship clubs throughout the season after he was frozen out by former boss Andy Scott.

And the Millers boss does not mind admitting the former Derby man is his favourite.

"He is a Championship player all day long and when I arrived he was in the cupboard and how you could put a player like that in the cupboard I don't know," Evans added.

"The players say I love him and they're right I do love him. I'm in love with Ben Pringle.

"I am not knocking Andy Scott because of his management of Ben but he is the sort of lad who can deliver magic."
