Ptit bid hinges on ground

Ptit Zig will only take up his entry in the Stan James Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham if the ground is very soft.

A Grade One winner in France last November, he ran a stormer under top weight in the Ladbroke at Ascot when second to Willow's Saviour.

Ptit Zig was then beaten by Melodic Rendezvous at Haydock when trying to give a horse three years his elder 4lb.

"He's very well, but we are still keeping our powder dry regarding Cheltenham," said part-owner Barry Fulton.

"He will only run if the ground is very soft, if it's much quicker than that then we won't be going.

"He'll have another run somewhere this season - where, I'm not sure - but I'm reluctant to over-race him as he'll be a lovely chaser in time."
