Pulga returns to Cagliari

Cagliari have reappointed Ivo Pulga as manager following the dismissal of Diego Lopez on Sunday after the club's fourth defeat in five matches.

Former Uruguay international Lopez - who played over 400 matches for the Sardinian outfit - was sacked after Cagliari's 3-1 loss to Roma, paving the way for Pulga's return.

A statement on Calgiari's official website read: "Pulga returns to guide the first team. The coach has led the first training session this (Monday) morning."

Cagliari president Massimo Cellino, who is hoping to take charge of Championship outfit Leeds United, defended his decision to sack Lopez with six games to go before the end of the season.

"I had no choice but to do this," Cellino said to Gazzetta dello Sport. "I wish I could have avoided doing this but Lopez gave me no choice."

Pulga, 49, returns to the club just two months after being dismissed as Lopez's assistant by Cellino.

Cagliari, who have won just two games this calendar year and lie 15th in Serie A, visit Sassuolo on Saturday.
