Raanta blanks Kings

Rookie Antti Raanta made 26 saves for his first NHL shutout as the Chicago Blackhawks edged out the Los Angeles Kings 1-0.

Raanta, in for the injured Corey Crawford, was almost matched in his stellar outing by opposite number Martin Jones, who made 29 saves and was beaten only by Brandon Saad's first-period effort.

Patrick Kane was kept quiet by the Kings, meaning his points streak ended at 14 games.

Colin Wilson scored twice and added an assist as the Nashville Predators beat the Detroit Red Wings 6-4.

Craig Smith, Nick Spaling, Mike Fisher and Roman Josi also scored for the Predators, who inflicted a defeat on the Red Wings in Detroit's last game before the Winter Classic.

Elsewhere the Ottawa Senators were 3-1 winners over the Washington Capitals while the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 via a shoot-out.
