Racing confirm Phillips deal

Racing Metro have confirmed the signing of Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Phillips was dismissed by Racing's Top 14 rival Bayonne in October for allegedly being drunk when he turned up for a video analysis session.

The 31-year-old vehemently denied the accusations and has since launched legal proceedings against the Basque club.

Racing president Jacky Lorenzetti said on Monday morning his club was close to securing Phillips' signature and the move was confirmed on their official website later in the day.

"Racing Metro 92 is happy to announce the signature today (Monday) of Welsh international Mike Phillips," read a statement from the club.

"For several months, Racing has been negotiating with Phillips and his agents with the aim of recruiting him for the 2014-15 season.

"The recent events in Bayonne have only precipitated his signature.

"He will be available for selection for this Saturday's Heineken (European) Cup fixture against Harlequins in Nantes."

Phillips, who played for Wales during their recent autumn internationals, will compete with France international Maxime Machenaud for the No 9 shirt.
