Rain forces draw at Old Trafford

Rain was the only winner as Lancashire and Sussex were forced to settle for a draw at Old Trafford.

With the forecast not encouraging, the visitors declared on their overnight total of 216 for five, setting Lancashire a notional target of 324 runs for victory in the LV= County Championship Division One clash.

But only just over half an hour of play was possible and, after several aborted attempts at a restart, the match was finally abandoned as a draw.

Paul Horton managed 14 not out and Luis Reece three not out in a Lancashire total of 19 without loss before the rain arrived after eight overs and four balls.

Sussex ended the match with 10 points and Lancashire eight, leaving Sussex second in the table, a point behind leaders Warwickshire.
