Rangers rout Canadiens

New York Rangers routed Montreal Canadiens 7-2 in the Eastern Final Game 1 of the Stanley Cup play-offs at Bell Centre on Saturday.

The Rangers had been shut out in five of the last seven games in Quebec but Ryan McDonagh tied a franchise record for the most points in a Stanley Cup play-off game by a defence player after scoring four, with three assists, as they claimed victory.

It was also the first time Rangers have scored seven goals in a play-off game in seven years, since they beat Atlanta Thrashers 7-0 on April 17, 2007.
