Raonic too strong for Chardy
Milos Raonic continued his impressive form with a straight-sets win over Jeremy Chardy at the Japan Open.
The No 3 seed, fresh from his victory at the Thailand Open, hit 17 aces as he brushed aside Chardy 6-4 6-3.
Raonic will now face the dangerous Lukas Lacko after the Slovakian beat qualifier Edouard Roger-Vasselin 7-5 6-4.
"I feel so comfortable on this court I almost don't have to think," said Raonic.
"Lukas has nothing to lose. He made the draw in a fortunate situation and made the most of it. He's dangerous so I'll have to play very tight and disciplined."
Defending champion Kei Nishikori, who beat Raonic in the final last year in Tokyo, finished strongly to beat Feliciano Lopez.
The fourth seed edged the first set before running away with the match 7-6 (7-4) 6-0.
No 6 seed Nicolas Almagro was too strong for Horacio Zeballos as he raced to a 6-4 6-2 win - with the Spaniard now set to face Nishikori.
