The Baltimore Ravens will face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII after beating the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game.
The 49ers made light of a 17-point deficit as two Frank Gore touchdowns saw them roar from behind and into their Super Bowl for nearly two decades with a 28-24 victory over the top-seeded Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons looked set to claim the NFC crown when they raced out to a 17-0 lead, Matt Ryan throwing a pair of touchdown passes to Julio Jones and Matt Bryant adding a field goal in between.
The 49ers pulled back to within three thanks to TDs from LaMichael James and Vernon Davis, but Ryan threw his third touchdown pass, to Tony Gonzalez, at the end of the first half to make it 24-14 at the break.
But Gore scored on runs of five yards, at the start of the third quarter, and nine yards, midway through the fourth, to claim the greatest comeback to win an NFC championship.
No team had ever overcome a deficit of more than 13 points to win an NFC championship game before.
The 49ers sealed their first Super Bowl appearance since 1995 and atoned for last year's overtime loss to the New York Giants at the same stage.
San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh will face brother John in the Super Bowl as his Baltimore side beat New England 28-13.
Like the 49ers, the Ravens trailed at half-time, 13-7, but quarterback Joe Flacco threw three touchdown passes and the Baltimore defence held Tom Brady and the Patriots scoreless in the second half.
Two of Flacco's TD passes were to Anquan Boldin and one to Dennis Pitta.
As well as the battle of the Harbaugh brothers, the final throws up a possible fairytale ending to the career of Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.
The 37-year-old, who has spent his entirety of professional career which will conclude at the end of the post-season in Baltimore, was named MVP when the Ravens won their only Super Bowl in 2001.
