Razzak in Bangladesh squad

Abdur Razzak has been named in the Bangladesh squad for the ICC World Twenty20 on home soil next month.

The 31-year-old spinner sat out the recent series against Sri Lanka after suffering a hamstring injury, but he is expected to be fit in time for the start of the tournament on March 16.

Razzak, who has taken 39 wickets in 28 Twenty20 internationals, was named in the squad along with young batsman Sabbir Rahman.

The 22-year-old has made six half-centuries in domestic Twenty20 cricket and scored a confident 26 on his Bangladesh debut in Chittagong on Friday.

Wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim will skipper the host nation, and chief selector Faruque Ahmed was happy with the "blend of experience and youth" in their 15-player squad.

"We have considered the fact that this is a world event and experience was necessary, but it is also an opportunity to give youngsters a chance," Ahmed said in a statement.

"We have a lot of depth in our bowling. In our conditions, spin will be the main strength and we are well covered in that area with Shakib Al Hasan, Razzak and Sohag Gazi.

"I also believe this is an excellent fielding side."

Bangladesh will play Afghanistan, Nepal and Hong Kong in Group A of the preliminary round, with the top two teams advancing to the main draw.

The tournament opens with Bangladesh taking on Afghanistan in Dhaka on March 16.
