Riders beat Rocks to stay top

The Leicester Riders maintained their four-point lead atop the BBL Championship with an 85-73 victory at the Glasgow Rocks.

The Scottish side matched their high-flying visitors in the first quarter but could not keep pace for the rest of the match - with Anthony Rowe's 25-point haul propelling the Riders to an ultimately comfortable victory.

Donald Robinson top-scored with 26 points for Glasgow but it was to no avail.

Kareem Maddox's 27 points ensured the Newcastle Eagles remained on the heels of the Riders after they stormed to a 96-73 win at Cheshire Phoenix, who were playing their first home match since the change of their name.

The former Jets, who were sold to a fan-led group and re-named the Phoenix earlier this week, were thoroughly outclassed by the BBL defending champions.

A strong second-half helped the Plymouth Riders to an 87-65 triumph over Worcester Wolves.

The Raiders trailed 36-33 at the break but they took a one-point lead into the final quarter, where they ran riot, outscoring the Wolves 31-10, while elsewhere today, the Sheffield Sharks eased past the Durham Wildcats 88-73.
