Rio moves closer to QPR deal

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will have a medical with Queens Park Rangers on Thursday, according to Sky sources.

The 35-year-old held talks with Rangers boss Harry Redknapp earlier this week following his return from Brazil, where he had been working as a television pundit on the World Cup.

Ferdinand, who won six league titles, two League Cups, one Champions League and a Club World Cup with United, has been looking for a club since the end of last season.

Redknapp is keen to add more experience to his squad as Rangers return to Premier League action following their playoff victory against Derby in May.

Striker Bobby Zamora, who scored the only goal in that Wembley encounter, signed a one-year contract extension at Loftus Road earlier this week.
