Robins set to take Coventry reins

Coventry are set to appoint former Barnsley boss Mark Robins as the club's new manager later on Wednesday.

Robins has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Andy Thorn at the Ricoh Arena and has beaten the likes of Paul Ince and Phil Brown to the position, according to Sky Sports sources.

The former Manchester United striker has been out of management since leaving his job at Oakwell at the end of the 2010/11 season.

He will take charge of a Coventry side that have struggled to acclimatise to life in League One since last season's relegation from the Championship.

Thorn was dismissed towards the end of last month following a stuttering start to the campaign, but caretaker boss Richard Shaw has failed to improve results.

Shaw's final game in charge appears to have been Tuesday night's 4-1 defeat at promoted Shrewsbury which was a fourth successive loss in the league.

The Sky Blues have still to win in League One after opening with three straight draws and sit 23rd in the table after seven games.
