Rodgers expects response

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists his players will take their setback against Chelsea on the chin and respond in the right way.

Liverpool's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, coupled with Manchester City's win at Crystal Palace, saw their Premier League destiny taken out of their own hands with City now favourites to claim the title.

Rodgers has now called on his side to bounce back from the Chelsea loss and win their final two games of the season against Crystal Palace and Newcastle to keep the pressure on City.

"I think we have been on a run of games in which the games we have won has been exceptional and to lose against Chelsea is a big disappointment because we haven't had many games we have lost," said Rodgers.

"This is a great group of players and we will take this on the chin and will continue to work on. We'll recover and go again and hopefully we'll get the win against Crystal Palace.

"Our objective is for ourselves. We need to win our two games and see where it takes us and we will be fine."

No panic

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has also called on his team-mates not to panic after seeing their title challenge derailed by Chelsea.

Mignolet has warned his colleagues to focus on winning their two games and hope that City slip up to give them back the initiative in the title race.

"There are two games to play and we need to look at them. We now start working towards Crystal Palace," Mignolet told the Daily Star.

"We go the last two games as we have played this season. There are still many games to play for us, Manchester City and Chelsea.

"The only thing we can do is stay calm and try to bring the last matches of the season to a successful conclusion and play like we played all season."
