Roma have expressed an interest in River Plate defender German Pezzella, according to club scout Barend Krausz.
The 21-year-old is captain of Argentina's U20 side, and has been linked with a host of European sides despite only breaking into River's first team this season.
However, whilst Krausz admits Roma are looking at several options, the highly-rated Pezzella heads the list.
"At this stage of the year we start to watch players in South America," he said.
"But the most popular name on our list is German Pezzella."
However, Krausz did go on to admit that Roma face competition for his signature from another Italian club, but hopes to use one of the Giallorossi's current stars to their advantage.
"He is being followed by two Italian clubs, including Roma," he added.
"We have a good relationship with River since we signed Erik Lamela, so will work with that."
