Rory hopes for sleepless nights

Rory McIlroy is expecting some sleepless nights in the Middle East this week - in fact, he is hoping for a few.

It has nothing to do with his new mega-million pound contract with Nike, but the fact that girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki is playing in the Australian Open.

McIlroy was awake on Monday night as the former world number one, 10th seed in Melbourne, came through a tough first round match against German Sabine Lisicki 2-6 6-3 6-3.

"She likes playing three sets," said the 23-year-old Northern Irishman.

"I didn't get too much sleep, but I've done it plenty of weeks before. If I try to sleep I don't, so I might as well watch it."

Wozniacki's next match will be against Croatian Donna Vekic on Thursday, the day McIlroy partners Tiger Woods in the opening round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

While he has two majors to his name, Wozniacki has yet to break her Grand Slam duck.

McIlroy does not have a tournament next week and is scheduled to practise in Dubai, but if his partner of the last 18 months is still going strong there could be a big temptation to return to Australia, where they were together two weeks ago.
