Rowett: Loss can inspire us

Burton boss Gary Rowett believes the recent defeat to Chesterfield could be the kick up the backside his team needs heading into the play-offs.

Rowett felt Albion produced one of their worst performances of the season on Sunday as they lost 2-0 at home to the Spireites, who clinched promotion from League Two with victory at the Pirelli Stadium.

Burton are guaranteed a play-off spot ahead of the final game of the campaign on Saturday away at Southend - potential opponents for the Brewers in the semi-finals next month - but Rowett wants a response from his players against the Shrimpers.

"That might be a good result for us in some ways," said Rowett after the Chesterfield loss. "We've had it during the season where once or twice we've lost games and it's sparked us into doing a bit more. I think we've got to use that .

"The players have got to do more over the next two weeks. We've got to look at the quality Chesterfield have showed and also look at the little bit of class they showed in the likes of Gary Roberts and see if we can get that into our teams."
