Ruddy retains England aspirations

Norwich's John Ruddy is hoping for a second chance with England for this month's friendly with Italy, after injury ruled him out of Euro 2012.

Ruddy was a surprise inclusion in Roy Hodgson's squad for the European Championships, but was then forced to pull out after breaking his finger in training.

The 25-year-old is now fully fit again and is hoping to get the call from Hodgson for the game with Italy in Switzerland on August 15.

"It's always at the back of your mind that you might get an England chance again," Ruddy told the Sunday Mirror.

"It was a blow to miss out and it was a strange kind of injury. I went to gather a ball during my second training session and it dipped and caught the end of my finger.

"But I'm fit and I would love to be part of the England squad again and, hopefully, that will happen."
