Rumours won't faze Sherwood

Tim Sherwood has laughed off speculation linking Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino with the Tottenham manager's job.

Sherwood was appointed boss on an 18-month contract only last month and has lost just one game since, but that has not stopped speculation Spurs could turn to Southampton's Pochettino in the long-term.

The Argentine this week committed his future to Saints until the summer following the resignation of his boardroom ally Nicola Cortese but said it was too soon to predict what would happen beyond then.

Asked about the link Sherwood said: "I didn't know about that. Am I being linked with the Southampton job?

"The expectation at this club is far greater than they have at Southampton.

"If Andros Townsend was at Southampton he would not have had nine loans -he would have had his development through the leagues there like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott did. That is the market they are in."

Sherwood has been at White Hart Lane long enough to know what is expected of the club's managers - Harry Redknapp lost his job a month after securing a fourth-placed finish and Andre Villas-Boas was sacked in December with Spurs just eight points off top spot.

He said: "If the results meet the expectation of the club, I will still be here. If they don't, I won't be.

"I am realistic enough to know the ambitions of this club are very, very high and the demands are high. I knew that before I took the job and I am just hoping I can do enough to keep the job in the long term."
