Rush: Busy summer for Reds
Ian Rush believes Premier League runners-up Liverpool will be looking to reinforce 'every department' of their squad in the summer transfer window.
Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is already planning for another title challenge next season after falling just short in 2013/14 having scored 101 goals but conceded 50.
Liverpool will also be competing in the UEFA Champions League and that is likely to mean they will need to add strength in depth to their squad to ensure they are a force on all fronts.
Southampton's England playmaker Adam Lallana and Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno are understood to be targets, while Bayer Leverkusen claim Liverpool also want their versatile midfielder Emre Can and Sky sources claimed they had made a bid for Southampton striker Rickie Lambert on Thursday.
And Rush expects Rodgers to be looking at a range of potential signings, as the Liverpool goalscoring great told Sky Sports: "With the Champions League, I am sure they will be looking at every department to strengthen.
"What do you do if Luis Suarez or Daniel Sturridge gets injured?
"It also depends on who is available at what price. I am sure Brendan will be looking at every angle."
Rush, though, does believe Liverpool will be focusing on improving a defence that conceded almost double third-placed Chelsea's total of 27 goals in the top-flight season.
He said: "Brendan will have his people in mind. They scored more than 100 goals and had a fantastic season but let a lot of goals in.
"Defensively, they have got to be looking to try and stop those goals going in. I am sure Brendan will be looking at a lot of set-pieces where they lost goals.
"I think, defensively, maybe they will be looking to strengthen and maybe in midfield, as well.
"When you look at the goals scored, more than 100 goals, you cannot fault them for much."
