Saha happy with support role

Louis Saha accepts that he has been drafted in by Lazio to provide cover while Miroslav Klose is out injured.

Saha completed a switch to Italy on a short-term deal on Wednesday, with his release by Sunderland in January allowing him to move outside the transfer window as a free agent.

The 34-year-old striker is delighted to have agreed a deal with one of the leading lights in Serie A and is looking forward to taking on a new challenge after 13 years in England.

He is determined to make the most of his opportunity, but appreciates that Lazio only made an approach after seeing Germany international Klose ruled out for two months with a knee injury.

"I am happy to be here, Lazio is a great club and Italy is a great country," said Saha.

"I want to give my best. I am here to offer support after the injury to Klose, and I will do that willingly.

"This is a great group and it will be a pleasure to work with them."

Lazio coach Vladimir Petkovic added: "I am very happy with this gift from the club.

"The arrival of Saha allows us to be more competitive and he will also be useful once Klose returns."
