Saints wait over MacLean lay-off

St Johnstone striker Steven MacLean will not discover the extent of his dislocated elbow injury for two weeks.

The 29-year-old, who suffered the injury during a 3-1 win over Dundee on Saturday, has had his elbow set in plaster ahead of a second visit to a consultant in a fortnight.

A club statement added: "It's hoped that the plaster will immobilise the elbow sufficiently to allow healing to take place but an operation cannot be ruled out and if that's the case a lengthy absence is on the cards."

Former Celtic and Hearts striker Craig Beattie staked his claim for his first start for the club in Saturday's home match with St Mirren when he scored for the under-20s in a 2-1 win at Falkirk last night.

Rowan Vine, who is in the midst of a three-match ban, was also on target.
